Description

Music On Film: Showcasing inspiring music docs from around the world and special guest speakers selected by The Royal Conservatory.

Amós and Abraham are two 12-year-old boys celebrated as child prodigies in Spain’s flamenco scene. While the sui generis guitarist Amós performs around the world and composes his own music, the spontaneous and charismatic Abraham brings the rich tradition of flamenco singing to the Caño-Roto neighborhood of Madrid. The film tells an intimate story about two different paths to acquiring virtuosity and the passing of music and life philosophy from father to son.

In Spanish, with English subtitles.

FLAMENCO AT 5:15

D: Cynthia Scott | Canada | 1983 | 29 min | STC

This Oscar®-winning short film is an impressionistic record of a flamenco dance class given to senior students of the National Ballet School of Canada by two great teachers from Spain, Susana and Antonio Robledo. Beautifully illuminated, with a dynamic visual style that emulates the staccato rhythms of the dance, Flamenco at 5:15 is a thrilling introduction to this visceral art form.

Special guest: Flamenco guitarist Jorge Miguel and dancers Esmeralda Enrique and Martine Lamy will participate in a Q&A following the screening.

Single Ticket: $15 ($12 for Bloor members)

Presented by The Royal Conservatory and Hot Docs.
