Encore:
Bringing back some of the hottest documentaries for an encore presentation.
Altman provides an in-depth look at the life and
times of legendary filmmaker Robert Altman
(M*A*S*H, McCabe and Mrs. Miller, Nashville,
The Player, Gosford Park). While refusing to
bow down to Hollywood’s conventions, or its
executives, Altman’s unique style of filmmaking
won him friends and enemies, earned him
worldwide praise and occasionally scathing
criticism, and proved that it is possible to
make truly independent films.
A collection of rarely seen Robert Altman
short films will follow each screening.
THE PARTY (1966, 3 minutes): Altman explores an age-old theme threaded
throughout his work and life: revelry.
POT AU FEU (1966, 9 minutes):
A tongue-in-cheek Fellini-esque exploration
of pot smoking Los Angelenos.
THE KATHRYN REED STORY (1966, 15 minutes):
This humorous biographical love letter was
created as a birthday gift for Altman’s wife.
