Description

During the Christmas season The Nutcracker ballet is performed by more than 700 dance companies in cities around the world. People love the timeless story, but what does it really take to produce this ballet each year? Getting to The Nutcracker showcases the work involved in gathering resources, assembling volunteers, casting dancers, rehearsing numbers and staging this classic ballet. The Los Angeles-based Marat Daukayev School of Ballet, led by the former Kirov star, gives viewers a peek behind the curtain as young dancers from the ages of three to 18 audition and rehearse for this annual performance. Getting to the Nutcracker captures the time, sacrifice, and dedication of the dancers and their families, while sharing the beautiful and bittersweet moments they experience along the way. This dazzling display of dance and devotion will get you in the holiday spirit!

Film subject Javier Wong will participate in a Q&A on Friday, November 28, at 6:30 p.m. Director Serene Meshel-Dillman will participate in Skype Q&As on Saturday, November 29, at 3:30 p.m., and Sunday, November 30, at 6:30 p.m.

Co-presented by Canada's National Ballet School.
