Legendary jazz trumpeter Clark Terry played alongside
Charlie Barnet, Count Basie and Duke Ellington, and
mentored a young Miles Davis and Quincy Jones. Now
93 and seemingly unstoppable, he continues to leave
his indelible mark on music as he works with the next
generation of young and emerging musicians. Through
his mentorships, an unlikely bond occurs when blind
piano prodigy Justin Kauflin begins to prepare for an
international competition. Suffering from stage fright
and fighting the stigma of his blindness, Justin relies
heavily on Terry’s guidance and support. But as Terry’s
health takes a turn for the worse and his own vision
begins to fade, the men find themselves face to face
with the biggest challenges of their lifetimes. What
started as a student/teacher relationship develops into
a lasting friendship of love. Heather Haynes, Hot Docs
