Madeleine and her teenage big sister Sophie spend the summer in the weekend cottage of their grandmother, in North Italy. Parents divorced. The father lives in the city, where his demanding job doesn't allow him to visit the girls, while their mother is in France, spending holidays with her new boyfriend.
The boring countryside every-days filled with the desire to see their dad, is spiced up by only a few things. A peacock for example, whose voice they often hear, but who remains hidden from their eyes. One day Granny Adriana becomes sick. The worried grandchildren immediately call for a doctor, who shows far more interest in Sophie, instead of the Grandmother. The girls become frightened of Granny Adriana’s state, and of the doctor’s behavior. They decide to escape from the house to find their dad and bring him home.
After an adventurous journey the father and the girls arrive back to the house together to try to rebuild their torn relationship.
