Description

Sweden is typically portrayed as having a perfectly organized society, a raw model and symbol of the highest achievements of human progress. The Swedish Theory of Love digs into this lifestyle, exploring the existential black holes of a society that has created the most autonomous people in the world. Having broadly equal opportunities for independent existence has meant that half the population lives in single households and the number of people dying alone is continually on the rise, along with other unintended consequences. This revelatory doc raises the question of why a life lived in such security and safety could turn out to be so unsatisfying.

In Swedish and English, with English subtitles.

Co-presented by The Swede Life in Toronto.

Critical praise:

  • Gorilla Film - “Truly entertaining documentary.”
  • The Guardian - “Stylized editing and jaunty ironic music.”
  • Vice - “Visually exquisite.”
