Description

From award-winning filmmaker Steve James (Hoop Dreams, Life Itself) comes this astonishing and endearing David-and-Goliath tale. Abacus, a family-owned bank in New York, is accused of mortgage fraud making them the only U.S. bank to face criminal charges in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. The Sungs, an idiosyncratic and instantly lovable family with a longstanding reputation in the city's Chinatown community, are forced to embark on a lengthy legal battle. This TIFF 2016 favourite brings a truly human face to a tale of banks and litigation, pitting an immigrant family against the American dream they believed in.
