Description

Errol Morris Retrospective: In conjunction with The B-Side, we celebrate and screen the auteur's major works.

From legendary documentarian Errol Morris (whose extensive oeuvre is the subject of a retrospective, June 16–20) comes one of his warmest films, an endearing look at the life and work of portrait photographer Elsa Dorfman. A magician with the large-format Polaroid Land 20x24 camera, Dorfman has taken thousands of pictures over several decades—Bob Dylan and Allen Ginsberg among her subjects. Morris gets a personal tour through Dorfman’s archive as she reflects on the art of photography. What subtly emerges is a study of how we see ourselves and that strange meeting point of real and fake, encapsulated by the still image.
