Description

A young man travels to India and has to decide between the miracles he sees and life as he knew it.

“American Yogi” is a documentary film about love and enlightenment that offers insight into the wisdom traditions of the east. It tells the story of Steven, a nice Jewish boy from Miami who travels to San Francisco for the “Summer of Love” and returns a hippie. Later, as a successful but dissatisfied businessman, he discovers Ram Dass’s iconic book “Be Here Now” about the Indian Saint Maharajji and decides to travel to India in search of a more meaningful life. This book influenced an entire generation and transformed the lives of Steve Jobs and Marc Zuckerberg.

Inspired by Ram Dass, Steven visits the temples that impacted Jobs and Zuckerberg, and comes face to face with the miraculous, mind-altering world of ancient India.

“American Yogi” delves into the stories and teachings of Maharajji as told by his students and devotees. It weaves you through the miracles of India and the joys and difficulties of walking the spiritual path in America.

The movie features a world music soundtrack by grammy-nominees Krishna Das and Jai Uttal.

“ ‘American Yogi’ is an inspiration.” — Ram Dass

“A deeply inspired film! About what the Western mind calls fiction – and the East calls reality.” — Shankar Mohan, Director of the International Film Festival of India
