The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Flagstaff premiere of “Django” on Wednesday, March 14 as part of the festival’s monthly Flagstaff Cinema Series. There will be one screening of the film at 7:00 p.m. at Harkins Flagstaff 16 Theatres.
“Django” just won the Directors’ Choice Award for Best Feature Film at the Sedona International Film Festival and was the first film to sell out both screenings prior to the festival opening.
"Django" is the story of Django Reinhardt, famous guitarist and composer, and his flight from German-occupied Paris in 1943. The Nazis had a strong hatred not only for gypsies but for jazz music, which they considered ‘American’ and ‘black’.
While at the pinnacle of his art, Django Reinhardt — the brilliant and carefree jazz guitarist, king of ethereal swing — plays to standing-room-only crowds. Meanwhile his gypsy brethren are being persecuted throughout Europe. His life takes a turn for the worse when the Nazi propaganda machine wants to send him on tour in Germany. As the threat of persecution intensifies, being famous becomes very dangerous.
“Django” stars Reda Kateb and Cécile de France and is directed by Etienne Comar.
A representative from the NAU Philosophy Department and Philosophy in the Public Interest will lead a discussion following the film screening.
