SIlent Sky

When Henrietta Leavitt begins work at the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s, she isn’t allowed to touch a telescope or express an original idea. Instead, she joins a group of women “computers,” charting the stars for a renowned astronomer who calculates projects in “girl hours” and has no time for the women’s probing theories. As Henrietta, in her free time, attempts to measure the light and distance of stars, she must also take measure of her life on Earth, trying to balance her dedication to science with family obligations and the possibility of love.

For the past fifty-six years, springtime at Lipscomb has meant Singarama, as more than 16,000 students have participated in this popular student musical. It is impossible to measure on an individual basis the sense of accomplishment, the fun, and the friendships that can be attributed to Singarama. This spring we present “Bring the Family” – Good Times, Perfect Strangers and Wonder Years Armed only with their category, the students in each group develop their story lines, write scripts, choose a minimum of 8 songs and accompanying choreography, and design and create sets and costumes. The shows, evaluated by a panel of 18 judges, compete in three categories (theme, music, and staging) and in overall sweepstakes points. Come join the fun as we celebrate the 56th season of this treasured Lipscomb tradition!

Blood Wedding

On the morning of her wedding day, a young bride is visited by a former paramour, reigniting a family blood feud that has been simmering for years. Their isolated village is a pent-up powder keg of love and deception, family and revenge, beauty and betrayal. The bride must make a decision that could prove the difference between life and death. Lorca – one of Spain’s most revered and controversial dramatists – penned this bold and timeless work, one that speaks to any heart longing for true connection.
