ADVISE AND CONSENT is a 1962 American political drama film, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Allen Drury, that follows the nomination process of a man who commits perjury in confirmation hearings for his nomination as Secretary of State.
Directed by Otto Preminger, the star-studded cast features Henry Fonda, Charles Laughton (in his final film role), Don Mur-ray, Walter Pidgeon, Peter Lawford, Gene Tierney, Franchot Tone, Lew Ayres, Burgess Mere-dith, Eddie Hodges, Paul Ford, George Grizzard, Inga Swenson, Betty White, Edward Andrews, and others.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with FOSTER HIRSCH, a professor of film at Brooklyn College, and the author of sixteen books on film and theater, including Hollywood and the Movies of the Fifties; Otto Preminger: The Man Who Would Be King; The Dark Side of the Screen: Film Noir; and A Method to Their Madness: The History of the Actors Studio. He lives in New York City.
