“A stunningly invigorating film that rejects the conformity of the genre.” - Little White Lies
Premiering in the “Un Certain Regard” section of the Cannes Film Festival, picking up a nomination for Director Marie Kreutzer (The Ground Beneath My Feet), and earning a win for Actress Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread), “Corsage” puts it’s own spin on the familiar period biopic drama.
A fictional account of one year in the life of Empress Elisabeth (Vicky Krieps) of Austria. On Christmas Eve 1877, Elisabeth, once idolized for her beauty, turns 40 and is officially deemed an old woman. Although her role has been reduced against her wishes to purely preformative, her hunger for knowledge and zest for life makes her more and more restless in Vienna, leading Elizabeth to rebel against the hyperbolized image of herself and comes up with a plan to protect her legacy.
