Description

From the directors of “Loving Vincent”, the film is a visual masterpiece, carefully hand-painted frame by frame, offering a poetic blend of comedy, tragedy, and reflection.

Set in the 19th-century Polish countryside, "The Peasants" tells the tale of Jagna (Kamila Urzedowska), a captivating woman longing for a world beyond her rustic homeland, steeped in age-old peasant customs and rituals. Against the backdrop of the village's cyclical rhythms of plowing, planting, and harvesting, "The Peasants" is an adaptation of Wladyslaw Reymont's Nobel Prize-winning novel.

Jagna's journey unfolds as she marries the wealthy widower Boryna (Miroslaw Baka) despite her true affections for his son, Antek (Robert Gulaczyk). Amidst the naturalistic beauty and occasional brutality of village life, "The Peasants" becomes a heartfelt ode to the enduring memories of our ancestors and the timeless matters of the heart.
