The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to partner with the Sedona Artists Consortium to present the first-ever in-person Sedona Sculptors Symposium on Tuesday, May 13 at 10 a.m. at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre.
Famed, award winning sculptors will discuss the bronze craft, their motivation, techniques and vision for the future market. Attendees will also observe a narrated video showing the multiple steps taken when shaping clay into solid bronze pieces.
Curator Linda Goldenstein will moderate the panel featuring James Muir, Ken Rowe, Susan Kliewer, Chris Navarro and Erik Petersen. Questions from the audience are encouraged.
JAMES MUIR
James Muir is internationally acclaimed having commissioned work for governments, churches and several newspaper headquarters. He's authored two books ("Lanterns Along the Path", I and II) that fabulously feature pictures of his sculptures with exacting descriptive detail. His scale ranges from maquette to monumental. Above all, James' allegorical focus presents a deep religious and historical meaning. He has created more than 100 sculptures.
KEN ROWE
Ken Rowe admits that he has an "obsession" with sculpting. Little known is that he was a taxidermist and "had a hand" in feeling animals' bones, sinews, faces, fur, etc. Not a hunter, Ken reveres animals so he turned to creating them in bronze…. to always remain alive and touchable. Ken's hand-held pieces are detailed and his life size pieces are so dramatic. Ken is also a gallery owner.
SUSAN KLIEWER
Susan Kliewer creates realistic life size subjects that are very visible in Sedona for the public to gaze upon. Her connection to Sedona's history and its brave settlers portrays life's struggles living in the wild West.
CHRIS NAVARRO
Chris Navarro’s life story is remarkable. He’s a sculptor, professional bull rider, author, gallery owner and cowboy team roper. In fact, his books are filled with action photos of rodeo riding which incentivize him to “re-create” the action in bronze. Aside from his artistic talents, running a gallery squarely puts him in the center of bronze art collecting.
ERIK PETERSEN
Erik Petersen is a renowned "foundry artist" himself. His clients include the best of the best sculptors because they trust his intuition and skill in rendering the exact shape, texture and patina that bronze artists demand. Erik will narrate a short video on "bronzing".
LINDA GOLDENSTEIN
Linda Goldenstein represents more than fifty artists of various media. Her expertise as an entrepreneur, gallery owner and curator ensures that her moderation of this symposium will be enlightening to attending aspiring artists, collectors and gallery owners.
