The Great American Read: Finale Event

Showings

Mary D. Fisher Theatre Tue, Oct 23, 2018 7:00 PM

Description

Join friends and colleagues at the Mary Fisher Theater on Tuesday, October 23, to learn, along with the rest of the country: What is America’s most-loved novel? And, the bonus reveal: What is Sedona’s most-loved novel?

Sedona Public Library will host the live broadcast of PBS’s The Great American Read Grand Finale at 7 p.m. (doors open at 630 p.m.) at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. The Library is pleased to again partner with Sedona International Film Festival to bring this national television series into the Sedona community. Free tickets are available.

The Finale includes interviews with special guests including Arizona’s Diana Gabaldon, as well as Amy Tan and Martin Sheen. Don’t miss this opportunity to watch with friends and discuss what books we read, which ones we love the most, and what books received our vote. There will be door prizes and giveaways, as well as wine and snacks available for purchase.

Anyone can vote online for America’s favorite novel until October 17; you can vote for SEDONA’s most-loved novel at the Library in West Sedona or the Village of Oak Creek, until October 22.

There is still time to borrow or download books from the list of 100, or borrow movies, from Sedona Public Library. You can also buy available items at the Friends of the Sedona Library Used Bookstore.

Sedona Public Library is one of 50 recipients selected by the American Library Association and PBS to receive a programming grant for “The Great American Read.”

The Great American Read is based on a list of 100 diverse novels, announced last April, and selected through a demographically representative national survey of 7200 people earlier this year. The project encourages audiences to read the books, vote from the list of 100, and share their personal connections to the titles.
