Foxtober: Nosferatu The Vampyre

“It is about the mood and style of vampirism, about the terrible seductive pity of it all.” - Roger Ebert Werner Herzog’s only horror film is as rich with artistry and tragedy as his most grounded, human work. It is 1850 in the beautiful, perfectly-kept town of Wismar. Jonathan Harker (Bruno Ganz, WINGS OF DESIRE) is leaving on a long journey over the Carpathian Mountains to finalize real estate arrangements with a wealthy nobleman. His wife Lucy (POSSESSION’s Isabelle Adjani) begs him not to go and is troubled by a strong premonition of danger. Despite her warnings, Jonathan arrives four weeks later at a large, gloomy castle. Out of the mist appears a pale, wraith-like figure with deep-sunken eyes who identifies himself as Count Dracula (Klaus Kinski). The events that transpire slowly convince Harker that he is in the presence of a vampire. Even still, he doesn’t realize the magnitude of danger he, his wife and his town are about to experience.

Foxtober: An American Werewolf in London

It's werewolf appreciation night at the Fox! While hiking across the moors in England under a full moon (bad idea!), David (David Naughton) and Jack (Griffin Dunne) are attacked by a some sort of beast that none of the locals will even admit exists. David makes it out alive but he's definitely not the same man. With the help of Alex (Jenny Agutter), he tries to make sense of the monstrous changes that are happening to him while also coming to terms with the fact that he's being haunted by his new best friend, who's now a rotting corpse. Writer/Director John Landis masterfully mixes horror and humour in a film that also features unbelievable Academy-Award-winning effects from Rick Baker, and the best use of the doo-wop song “Blue Moon” in cinema history. Come howl at the screen with us!

Foxtober: Possession 4K Restoration

"Andrzej Zulawski's 1981 masterpiece is like no other film before or after it, a swirling, hallucinatory portrait of a marriage in shambles and a wife, husband, and lover ensnared in a stew of passions that lead only to Armageddon ... there's a frightening majesty to its lunacy." —Nick Schager, Esquire 4K RESTORATION! Banned upon its original release in 1981, Andrzej Zulawski’s highly choreographed nightmare of a marriage unraveling is an experience unlike any other. Professional spy Mark (Sam Neill) returns to his West Berlin home to find his wife Anna (Isabelle Adjani, in a role that earned her Best Actress at Cannes) insistent on a divorce. As Anna's frenzied behavior becomes ever more alarming, Mark discovers a truth far more sinister than his wildest suspicions. With its pulsating score, visceral imagery, and some of the most grueling performances ever captured on screen, Possession is cinematic delirium at its most intoxicating.

Foxtober: Pieces

“It’s exactly what you think it is!” Who doesn't love a good, old-fashioned slasher movie on Halloween? Well, this is a slasher movie that needs to be seen to be believed! The co-eds of a Boston college campus are targeted by a mysterious killer who seems to be creating a human jigsaw puzzle from their body parts. Sounds crazy, right? Borrowing heavily from the Italian giallo tradition, but possessing a frenzied insanity that's entirely its own, PIECES is packed with so much absurdity that many fans have wondered if it was actually intended to be a satire of the slasher genre. Don't miss this rare screening of an underappreciated cult classic, just in time for spooky season!
