The barren, unforgiving desert landscape of Arrakis is a far cry from the burbling horror of Anytown, USA that permeates many of Lynch’s typical film settings. Yet beneath the shadow of the towering Shai-Hulud is a story of a young man named Paul Atreides whose visions of a violent, religious jihad in his name propels him reluctantly towards his fate. Filled with phenomenal production design and an inspired cast, DUNE offers the one and only glimpse at Lynch utilizing a large budget to realize his dreams.
