Part of the Philadelphia Film Society's Teenage Dream - Ôbayashi director series.
Known for his JAWS-inspired, sleepover from hell feature debut, 1977’s HOUSE (HAUSU), the late Japanese filmmaker Nobuhiko Ôbayashi continued to explore nostalgia and memory through imaginative coming-of-age films that championed surrealism and wonder right until his passing in 2020. Thanks to Cult Epics and the American Genre Film Archive, we are ecstatic to present brand new restorations from the 1980s that are available to screen for the first time in North America. Eccentric, odd, and bursting with passion, Ôbayashi captures the universal possibilities that strike youth on the precipice of adulthood and the fleeting memories of a life once lived.
