Guest Lecture: Cheryl Mullenbach - Iowa Vet: Man, Woman and Beast
Thursday, Nov 7, 2019 6:00 PM
Iowans have a long tradition of serving in our country’s times of need. Iowa’s sons and daughters of American Revolutionary war veterans recalled their dads’ recollections of serving under General George Washington, reusing lead shot, and vying for a reward for designing a sturdier marching boot. A white-haired Iowa man reminisced about serving in the War of 1812 as an aide to his dad. A 20-year-old Iowa girl gave her life at the Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War; and a Red Oak boy joined Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders in the Spanish American War. Two Iowa dogs made their way to war with an Iowa regiment, and Iowa was the testing ground for an army “automobile truck” that threatened to displace the army mule and wagon. “Iowa Vet: Man, Woman, and Beast” will highlight the stories of these heroes and more.
