SOLARPLATE/PRINTMAKING WORKSHOP with renowned printmaker Dan Welden
December 2, 12:00 - 4:00pm at Gold Coast Arts Center, 113 Middle Neck Road, Great Neck
$150.00pp (all supplies included)
About the Workshop
In this workshop you will
have the opportunity to do ‘multiple’ impressions with a
simple approach without the use of acids, solvents and hazardous materials.
Dan Welden pioneered the alternative approach to printmaking with
masterful results obtained by using "Solarplate," the steel backed
LIGHT SENSITIVE polymer plate which is processed with UV light and ordinary tap
water. Dan teaches this easy process with ‘originality’ in
mind for participants to work spontaneously and directly. Artists
can draw, paint and transfer images directly on the plate or work from
transparencies or digital images. Once this matrix is processed, it is
capable of yielding many impressions, inking it by hand and transferring it to
beautiful paper with an etching press.
No experience
in printmaking is required.
This workshop is running
concurrent with Dan Welden’s exhibition at Gold Coast Arts. Workshop will be followed by a
screening of a “Lasting Impressions,” the one-hour film about Dan Welden’s life
and work.*
*Please note – the screening of the film may be
open to the public. If you are interested in the screening of the film only
please email caroline@goldcoastarts.org
