A Nice Indian Boy

When Naveen (Karan Soni, Deadpool) brings his fiancé Jay (multiple Tony-award winner Jonathan Groff) home to meet his traditional Indian family, they must contend with accepting his white-orphan-artist boyfriend and helping them plan the Indian wedding of their dreams. With a starry cast, “A Nice Indian Boy” is a charming, lovely, heartwarming film that makes audiences smile. And smiling is good! "It is a remarkably sweet film, the kind of nice comedy that feels increasingly hard to make well in a landscape when so many films come with cynical agendas." — RogerEbert.com "’A Nice Indian Boy’ delights in defying expectations." — Indiewire

Art for Everybody

Thomas Kinkade’s pastoral landscapes made him the most collected painter of all time – and the most despised. You’ve seen his cozy cottages, idyllic gardens, and welcoming village streets on everything from canvas to commemorative plates. Both celebrated and disparaged for his kitschy signature settings, the “Painter of Light” Thomas Kinkade rocketed to popularity in the ‘90s by marketing himself to American evangelicals and pitting himself against the elite art establishment. Yet beneath the pristine public persona were demons that would drive him to alcoholism, scandal, and death from an overdose in 2012. After his passing, Kinkade’s daughters uncovered a trove of unseen, unexpectedly dark paintings, a discovery that launched an investigation into their father’s true personality. Through the voices of skeptical critics, adoring fans, and Kinkade’s closest friends and family, “Art for Everybody” digs deep into Kinkade’s life and work to elucidate the real man behind the persona.

When she gets the lead in a feature film directed by an acclaimed Italian filmmaker and starring one of America’s most beloved actors, it seems like the opportunity of a lifetime. Her collaborators, director Bernardo Bertolucci and star Marlon Brando (Matt Dillon) seem to be bringing out the best in Maria, sharing a warm rapport and mentorship with the 19-year old girl. The film goes on to be lauded as a fearless artistic breakthrough, but for Maria, it’s the beginning of a living hell. Based on the behind-the-scenes true story of the making of “Last Tango in Paris”, Jessica Palud’s sensitive biopic centers Maria’s story for the first time.

Eephus

Two recreational baseball teams, the River Dogs and Adlers Paint, have been meeting on their New England field on Sunday afternoons for longer than anyone can remember. These middle-aged sportsmen can’t run as fast as they used to or connect as reliably with a pitch, but their vigorous appetite for socializing, squabbling, and busting chops remains undiminished. After the know-nothing county board opts to raze the baseball diamond to make way for a school, the teams meet for one final game at their beloved Soldier’s Field, with girlfriends, kids, and local hooligans as intermittent spectators. As day turns to night and innings bleed together, the players face the uncertainty of a new era. Lovingly laid in a vanished Massachusetts of the mid-1990s, Carson Lund’s poignant feature debut plays like a lazy afternoon, perfectly attuned to the rhythms of America’s eternal pastime.

Janis Ian: Breaking Silence

In 1965, Janis Ian — a 14-year-old singer-songwriter from New Jersey — wrote “Society’s Child” about an interracial relationship. Recorded and released a year later, the song launched Ian’s career, but its subject matter ignited controversy, even resulting in death threats. The fallout plunged Ian into an emotional tailspin–and yet a few years later she emerged from the ashes with an even bigger hit, “At Seventeen.” Over six decades, Janis Ian gained ten Grammy nominations in eight different categories, saw her song “Stars” recorded by such luminaries as Nina Simone and Cher, and overcame homophobia, misogyny, and a life-threatening illness to produce an indelible body of work that continues to draw audiences around the globe. “Janis Ian: Breaking Silence” features interviews with Ian's extraordinary community of friends and collaborators, including folk luminaries Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez, and Tom Paxton, as well as Hollywood greats Lily Tomlin, Jean Smart, and Laurie Metcalf.

Loving Vincent

“Loving Vincent” — the world’s first fully oil painted feature film — brings the artwork of Vincent van Gogh to life in an exploration of the complicated life and controversial death of one of history’s most celebrated artists. More than six years in the making with the help of 125 specially trained painters, “Loving Vincent” is a uniquely animated film composed of 65,000 painted frames. Drawn from meticulous research and inspired by van Gogh’s masterpieces, subjects, and 800 personal letters, “Loving Vincent” captures the world of van Gogh in a cinematic experience like no other. No other artist has attracted more legends than Vincent van Gogh. Variously labelled a martyr, a lustful satyr, a madman, a genius and a layabout, the real Vincent is at once revealed in his letters, and obscured by myth and time. Vincent himself said in his last letter: ‘We cannot speak other than by our paintings’. We take him at his word and let the paintings tell the real story of Vincent van Gogh.

White With Fear

Emmy Award-winning director Andrew Goldberg's “White With Fear” sheds light on the decades-long strategy of politicians and media outlets to amplify racial divisions and white victimization narratives for power and profit. Described by critics as “riveting,” “masterful” and “absolutely required viewing,” and in the tradition of past classic documentary exposes such as “Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room” and “Inside Job”, “White With Fear” uncovers the real-world consequences of manipulative tactics that seek to demonize immigrants, spread Islamophobia, and deploy a cynical and strategic campaign of racist rhetoric with real world effects. “White With Fear” is a potent journalistic undertaking that unearths the hidden political playbook and key operatives behind these efforts.
