In 12th-century England, the pompous Roderick has usurped
the throne leaving all the royal family dead but one: an infant. This child has
been taken and cared for by a group of rebels in the forest who swear to
dethrone the tyrant. Among them, Hubert Hawkins, a former carnival entertainer,
and Jean, his beautiful and determined captain, set out to restore the rightful
heir to the throne.
With neither experience nor guts, only an incredible knack
for being in the right place at the wrong time, Hawkins finds himself tangled
in schemes and scandals across Roderick’s court. With the help of unlikely
allies, sheer luck, ludicrous miscommunication, and the whims of a nervous
witch –- Hawkins must dance, sing, fib and fight his way to victory. All the
while disguised as Giacomo the incomparable, King of Jesters, and the Jester to
the King.
