Description

Based on the true story of what may be the most spectacular escape attempt from East Germany ever undertaken.

In the summer of 1979, after two years of planning, sewing and tinkering, the Strelzyk and Wetzel families are ready to put their daredevil plan into action: fly to West Germany in a homemade hot air balloon. After their initial failure is found out by the authorities, the brave amateurs work frantically to create a second balloon while trying to avoid discovery by the East German police, who are desperate to track down the would-be traitors. This inspiring and nerve-wracking film from director Michael Herbig will keep you on the edge of your seat to the very end.

WINNER: Audience Award - Best Feature Film - Washington DC Film Fest
