Description

During the 1960s on Long Island, North Hempstead with its diverse population was the epicenter of major triumphs of human rights as well as inequalities during this tumultuous time. Defining Moments documents oral histories of many amazing freedom fighters in their pursuit for a more just society. Throughout the film, issues such as the struggle for fair housing, the desegregation of schools, the hiring of African-American teachers as well as the unique partnership forged between the Jewish and African American communities are explored. In addition, Martin Luther King's several appearances on Long Island are highlighted.
