In May 1931, the eminent photographer Nickolas Muray (1882-1965) traveled to Mexico where he met artist Frida Kahlo (1907-1954). The two started a romance that continued on and off for the next ten years and a friendship that lasted the remainder of her life. Featuring forty photographic portraits of Kahlo taken by Muray between 1937 and 1946 and their handwritten correspondence, this exhibition explores his unique perspective as Kahlo's friend, lover, and confidant.

Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter who is best known for her vibrant self portraits and costuming. During her lifetime she crafted herself both in paint and in person as a symbol of Mexican culture though her custom crafted dress and elaborate hairstyles, both of which were inspired by traditional Mexican dress and color pallets.
