Patricia Weitzel, string bass soloist 6:00 PM - TBD | 7:30 PM - RECEPTION AT THE ALBANY MUSEUM OF ART NOTE: REPEAT PERFORMANCE OCTOBER 3, 2021, 3:00 PM TIFT COUNTY HS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER This concert features music by Italian composers, including an excerpt by Francesca Caccini who is widely considered to be the first woman to write an opera (1685). Additional music will include a Renaissance antiphonal composition for 3 brass choirs by Giovanni Gabrieli, a concerto for string bass and orchestra by Giovanni Bottesini, and two orchestral selections from the Italian operatic tradition by Pietro Mascagni and Gioachino Rossini. The featured work will be Ottorino Respighi’s “Botticelli Triptych” in which the composer musically portrays Sandro Botticelli’s famous paintings: “Spring,” “Adoration of the Magi,” and “Birth of Venus.” Immediately following the performance the audience is invited to attend a reception at the Albany Museum of Art and view the exhibit “European Splendors.”
