Undine works as a historian lecturing on Berlin's urban development. When the man she loves leaves her, the ancient myth catches up with her. But falling in love anew, Undine reworks the myth of the mysterious water spirit as a modern fairy-tale in a disenchanted world.
It's very interesting to see Director Petzold move into the realm of fantasy after the wonderful period-drama work presented through Barbara (2012), Phoenix (2014) & Transit (2018). That he does so without falling too far into obvious whimsy suggeststs that this could be the start of a new, interesting chapter in his filmography.
