Join us for a special live concert at The United with the all-star supergroup Band of Other Brothers at 7:30pm. The Band of Other Brothers features Jeff Coffin on saxophones/woodwinds (Dave Matthews Band, Bela Fleck & The Flecktones), drummer Keith Carlock (Steely Dan, Sting), keyboardist Jeff Babko (James Taylor, Toto), guitarist Nir Felder (solo artist, Keyon Harrold), and playing the part of Will Lee on this run will be James Genus (Saturday Night Live Band, Daft Punk) on bass.
ABOUT BAND OF OTHER BROTHERS
“Making music with these guys is like getting three scoops of ice cream instead of just one,” says Jeff Coffin, of his Band Of Other Brothers. “It’s like when your parents let you lick the frosting bowl after baking a cake or getting the birthday present you always wished for but were afraid to ask.”
In March, 2020 the Brothers— drummer Keith Carlock (Steely Dan, Sting), Jeff Coffin on saxophones/woodwinds (Dave Matthews Band, Bela Fleck & The Flecktones), keyboardist Jeff Babko (James Taylor, Toto), Will Lee on bass and vocals (The Late Show with David Letterman, The Brecker Brothers), and guitarist Nir Felder (solo artist, Keyon Harrold)— reconnected from their home studios to record the album Look Up (August 13, Ear Up Records). “Because we were across the globe, there was a deeper meaning to the music for us, and hopefully listeners will get some joy from hearing it,” says Carlock. “And it’s a pretty killer band!
Engineered and mixed by John Paterno, Look Up! is the follow up to 2016’s City of Cranes. Babko, Coffin and Lee each composed three songs for Look Up! A highlight on the record, Lee’s beautiful “Cassie” features an acoustic bass solo by Stanley Clarke. Will’s “Freedom March” is a spirited tribute to civil rights leader John Lewis, and Lee sing’s the Brother’s first vocal song on Babko’s “Right Now Blues.”
Babko channels Carlock’s tenure with Steely Dan for “Painfully Oblivious” and also wrote a tribute to late guitarist Chuck Loeb, “Chuckles” (featuring scorching vibes by Nick Mancini). In addition to “The Rabbit,” Coffin wrote an edgy tribute to the late Steve Grossman, and Babko brought in “Look Up!”, written during the worldwide Black Lives Matter protests and inspired by 1970’s McCoy Tyner.
The seeds for Band Of Other Brothers began in Hollywood, when Babko, Coffin and drum pioneer Vinnie Colaiuta recorded the 2007 album, Mondo Trio.
Babko was inspired to expand the trio. He was reading a Pat Martino biography, and thought of Will Lee, who is on Martino’s 70s album, Starbright album. “Will brings a deep groove, an innate urgency and excitement, and a lifetime of experience and utter hipness,” says Babko. “And I’d met Nir when he was playing with Chuck Mangione like 100 years ago,” he explains, “and knew immediately we had to make some noise together. He’s so special.”

“We really did feel like a band immediately,” says Babko. Each player is a solo artist in his own right. “It takes a special set of folks to make something like this work.
