Dennis Hopper’s 1980 drama Out of the Blue returns to the big screen in a new 4K restoration.
Directed by and starring Hopper, the film follows a troubled family in the Canadian Northwest. Cebe (Linda Manz) lives with her father, who is an ex-convict, and her mother, who is struggling with drug addiction. Struggling to fit in with others, she tries to find comfort in a quirky combination of Elvis and the punk scene.
Praised for Manz’ performance, Out of the Blue is another stirring offering from the director of Easy Rider.
“Manz is the true author of her performance. The results are thunderous. Due to Manz’s work here, the film is filled with poignant moments of cinematic power that one usually only finds in European cinema.” – Michael Talbot-Haynes, Film Threat
“The result is probably the best of Hopper’s directorial efforts — it is certainly the most dramatically consistent of the bunch.” – Peter Sobczynski, eFilmCritic.com
“It’s a dire poem of rage and despair that feels truly alive.” – Jeffrey M. Anderson, Combustible Celluloid
