Description

SECS presents a sex education film program in protest of SCOTUS overturning Roe vs. Wade on June 24, 2022. These films take us back in time to see the fight for women’s rights so far and to ignite all people to continue the fight for womxn. From the suffragette movement to the invention of “the pill”, this 16mm documentary film event features three short films that show the essential roles of family planning and bodily autonomy on women’s equality and much of the social progress achieved during the 20th Century. One film is all about the struggles and accomplishments toward equality between the genders including the gaining of women’s right to vote, the invention of the pill, and gains in worker’s rights with unionization. The event will conclude with a film focused on the right of bodily autonomy and how women can take charge of medical decisions, like childbearing, breast cancer treatment, and abortion. This film discusses the white, male dominated medical industry’s history of dismissive attitudes and inhumane treatment of women, especially African American women.

This program includes documentary footage of childbirth, gynecological exams, and nudity.

Film Uprising is a fundraiser for abortion access with event proceeds going toward the NW Abortion Access Fund.
