A FLOOD-RELIEF BENEFIT FOR APPALSHOP'S APPALACHIAN MEDIA INSTITUTE
Appalshop’s Appalachian Media Institute provides opportunities for young people from Central Appalachia to explore their home communities, address local issues, and become engaged citizens through place-based media making.
The recent catastrophic flooding of eastern Kentucky severely damaged Appalshop’s Boone building, home to AMI. All of AMI’s filmmaking equipment, computers, art supplies, and countless memories were lost.
Appalshop and AMI hope to rebuild. And The Kentucky Theatre wants to support their efforts through this fundraising event. Join us to support AMI and Appalshop and enjoy the following:
•A reading by Silas House
•The premiere of the 2022 Appalachian Media Institute Films
•Buffalo Creek Revisited, a film by Mimi Pickering followed by a Q&A
•Music by Daniel Martin Moore and Wayne Graham
100% of tickets sales will benefit the Appalachian Media Institute’s flood-relief efforts.
A special thanks to sponsor, 21c Museum Hotels, and to partners, Appalshop, Kentucky Natural Lands Trust, Kentucky Rural Urban Exchange, WRFL, and the University of Kentucky College of Communication and Information, School of Journalism and Media.
