Description

Join  artists-in-residence SHAN Wallace and Lawrence Burney as  they present recent works that highlight some of the Baltimore stories shared over the course of Baltimore Living Archives project.  To mark the end of the residency, this program will feature a new work by each artist, an exhibition of photos by t.p. Luce, discussions with the Baltimoreans involved with the works moderated by Angela N. Carroll, and time to gather and socialize.

New Works Presented

Radio, love, and legacy at the Pratt
An animated work featuring a five minute conversation between SHAN Wallace and LaDawn Black. After years of listening to Love Zone and LaDawn Black show, SHAN finally gets to hear more about the behind the scenes stories of LaDawn Black's career and time in Baltimore.

Revisiting Ramona
Revisiting Ramona is a work-in-progress documentary by writer, journalist and filmmaker Lawrence Burney (True Laurels) about the East Baltimore neighborhood he once called home.

Told through the lens of photographer (and neighbor) t.p. Luce’s poetic photography book Tha Bloc: Words, Photographs and Baltimore City in Black White and Gray (2004), the film is a cinematic portrait of a Baltimore community’s past, present and future.

Baltimore Living Archives is an artist residency that invites Baltimoreans to craft and showcase media-based stories alongside two Baltimore artists with archiving practices, SHAN Wallace and Lawrence Burney. SHAN and Lawrence will develop their own work and work with the community, sharing skills and stories through a number of participatory programs. Members of the community will be invited to share their stories, explore and contextualize archives, and enjoy the findings of SHAN and Lawrence.

This project is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Anonymous Foundation. To find out more about how National Endowment for the Arts grants impact individuals and communities, visit www.arts.gov.
