In Summer Stock, Jane Falbury's (Judy Garland) New England farm becomes home to a troupe of actors who put on a show. At first reluctant, she has them do farm chores in exchange for food. Her reluctance becomes attraction when she falls in love with the director, Joe (Gene Kelly) who happens to be her sister's fiance. With Judy Garland's sizzling "Get Happy" number, to Gene Kelly's solo dance on stage, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
