A hearse drives down dark Colombian streets. Archives of beloved friends reverberate. Anhell69 derives its name from a fictional film director Theo Montaya was set to make, enlisting his friends and chosen family as the stars of the film. Montoya leads the viewer through a haunting voice-over as he describes the film-within-a-film. Blurring the lines of reality, Montoya narrates the documentary of the film that could have been had societal and social pressures facing queer youth not impacted the production. Anhell69 offers a striking commentary of the political state in Colombia, a country marked by a history of violence and drugs. Taking root in the healing and creative energy of his queer community, Montoya uses magical realism to reimagine a different past and present. (KS) This film contains sexual content; discussion of death/suicide; references to drug use; and sexual violence, transphobia, and homophobia
