Description

Popular Afrobeats musician Robert Kyagulanyi—known as Bobi Wine—devotes his craft to voicing the concerns of Ugandans. Striving to create change, Bobi daringly decides to run for president, an act of defiance against the 35-year-long regime of Yoweri Museveni. As he campaigns across the country, Bobi faces a powerful opposition that threatens his political aspirations as well as his life. Co-directors Moses Bwayo and Christopher Sharp fearlessly document Bobi’s family and presidential campaign through the COVID outbreak and leading up to the highly contentious election. Bobi Wine: The People’s President provides intimate access to his life grounded with a powerful soundtrack and dynamic on-the-ground footage. The filmmakers, much like Bobi, use their art to fight for democracy. (KS) This film contains images of violence and political persecution. Presented by Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy
