Filmmaker Chloe Abrahams explores a troubling family secret that, for decades, divided generations of her family. Her mother and grandmother had a strained relationship for years because of sexual trauma at the hands of a family member, and the rupture led to spans of time without communication. Abrahams fearlessly takes hold of the camera to confront the fractured relationship between mother and child, and, through a poetic narration, she leads the viewers through images of archival family footage and intimate personal interviews. Navigating her artistic exploration, she excavates her own traumas—those universally felt by most women and girls. This stunning debut feature proves that through dialogue and understanding, a hand of reconciliation can be extended even across the most stark divisions.
