In ORCHESTRA, Slovenia’s submission for Academy Award consideration, the bawdy members of a brass band travel by bus to perform in a small Austrian town. As they drink, sing, and carouse onboard, Matevz Luzar tells their stories behind the revelry, in five distinct but intertwining character vignettes. From the guilt ridden bus driver, to the teenage member on her first band trip, anxieties, desires, and true selves are revealed. Winner of Best Feature Film at the Festival of Slovenian Film, ORCHESTRA is offbeat and endearing, a charming portrait of interior lives, loosely based on Luzar’s own experiences as a member of a traveling brass band.
