The first of the 2023 "Evenings of Conversation and Connection" will be held at Contemporary Calgary on March 20 at 7pm.
The purpose of Calgary on Purpose is to embolden Calgary to be a model of how the peoples of the world can live well together, during these evenings we delight in our remarkable neighbours knowing that meeting with and appreciating each other is a powerful vaccine against the currents of fear and hate contaminating our civic life.
We are very proud that the presenters will include the Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Wendy Tilby and Amanda Forbis (who will have just returned from the March 12 ceremony with, we hope, an Oscar -and, yes, we will show their eight-minute film"The Flying Sailor), the indigenous country artist Kyle McKearney whose music heals and empowers through our uncovered history and University of Calgary Doctoral candidate Chenghua Li who, in collaboration with the artist Xiao Xiao, will present from her Doctoral research on -- wait for it---zombie ants!
The evening is FREE to the public but we ask you to register so we can guarantee your seat.
As stated above the intent is to stimulate conversation and curiosity about our neighbours on this land and our shared concerns, hopes and dreams. Do join us in fostering shared purpose across our beloved city!
Please note our ticketing system includes an option to donate to Contemporary Calgary. The donation option is not connected to this evening but you're welcome to contribute to the gallery should you wish.
