SORRY - THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT.

Join award-winning novelist Ann Patchett in conversation with Erin Whiting about Tom Lake, her eagerly-awaited new novel based in a fictional cherry orchard in a northern Michigan lakeside town. The novel probes many aspects of love—from youthful passion to the contentment of marriage to the welcome embrace of family when the outside world falls apart. As three sisters shelter on the family cherry farm during the pandemic, they urge their mother to share details of an early romance with a now-famous actor. So begins the at-once hopeful and reflective narrative that unspools in many directions, weaving a tapestry of past and present.

Ann Patchett is the owner of Parnassus Books in Nashville and the award-winning author of six novels, including Bel Canto, which won the Orange Prize for Fiction. Her work has been translated into more than 30 languages. TIME magazine named her one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World.   Guest host Erin Anderson Whiting is Senior Charitable Giving Specialist at the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy and the co-founder of Parallel 45 Theatre.

Seating for the National Writers Series events is now general admission.  Ticket price will increase $3 on event night.  Each ticket (except student) includes a hardcover copy of Ann's book Tom Lake
