Description

Please join us for the second of the 2023 Calgary on Purpose/Contemporary Calgary "Evenings of Conversation and Connection" on June 14 at 7pm. Our aim is to encourage Calgary to be a model of how the people of the world can live well together. In that spirit, we delight in the skills, stories, aspirations and goodwill of our remarkable neighbours on this land.

We begin with a few extraordinary creative Calgarians showing brief examples of their work, who the inimitable Dave Kelly will then interview. Following this, Dave will engage all of us in the audience in conversation. The program will finish by 8:30pm but the bar will be open for those who wish to stay and chat further.

We are very proud that the June 14 presenters will include the remarkable Lisa Latouche who, for the last decade, has been tap dancing on Broadway. Lisa will share her joyous art form with us and then chat with Dave about her exploration of her African Canadian roots through dance. Staying with dance we will honour Jean Grand-Maître on his retirement. We will explore how his luminous creativity has lifted our Alberta Ballet to the world stage. And, for something completely different engineer, inventor, scientist and Clean 50 award winner Gary Bunio will share his enthusiasm for the extraordinary innovation and creativity in our oil patch as we seek abundant energy with low or no carbon.

Because of the generous support of Contemporary Calgary, many volunteers and Calgary Arts Development the evening is free to the public but we ask you to RSVP so we can guarantee your seat. You are very welcome to invite friends and colleagues-  but do have them also RSVP.

As noted above the intent is to stimulate curiosity about and appreciation for our neighbors on this land.   Do join us in sharing and celebrating our concerns, hopes and dreams for our beloved city!

*Please note, embedded in the ticketing system is an option to donate to Contemporary Calgary. The donation option is not connected to this evening but you are welcome to contribute to the gallery should you wish.
