Join us for the first installment of PSYCHEDELIC CINEMA at The Kentucky Theatre. For one night only on Thursday, August 24, and in conjunction with Expansion – Lexington’s Psychedelic Experience & Music Festival, we’ll be showing King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s Chunky Shrapnel on the big screen. Unlike any other concert film, Chunky Shrapnel offers a first-person POV into the prolific Australian band’s unparalleled live show, chronicling their epic 2019 EU “Infest the Rats Nest” Tour. The film has been remastered in 4K and new 5.1 surround mix by Gizz themselves. This new release also includes KGLW’s short film Sleeping Monster before the main presentation and is coming only to select cities in North America, and this is your only chance to see it in the state of Kentucky!
Kicking things off for the night will be the video works of Robert Beatty. A Lexington native and champion of all things local and rad, Beatty is known worldwide for his graphic design, video works, and music. Featured frequently in the New York Times, his artwork has been used for album covers for artists like Tame Impala, The Weeknd, Thee Oh Sees, Flaming Lips, and many more. Indeed, he’s woven himself into the fabric of the modern psychedelic music and art scene. Join us as Robert discusses select video works from his extensive catalog of never-before-seen footage followed by a Q+A with the artist.
