70TH ANNIVERSARY!
Fearful memories of this timeless 1953 sci-fi bone-chiller still haunt the dreams of fans who have never forgotten the story of a young boy who witnesses an alien invasion. Little David Maclean (Jimmy Hunt) wakes up in his perfect suburban home to find that a flying saucer has landed in his backyard and some mysterious force is turning all the adults in the area—including his parents, played by Leif Erickson and Hillary Brooke—into soulless monsters.
The movie has since become a modern classic and was also one of two early 50s classic alien-invasion science fiction films (the other one being Robert Wise’s The Day the Earth Stood Still) reflecting Cold War tensions, the Red Scare and paranoid anxiety typical of many films in the 50s.
