Learn to carve greenwood, using traditional Scandinavian slöjd methods. This class will focus on the use of safe and efficient techniques with a slöjd knife (straight knife) and hook knife. Participants will learn to carve 3 kitchen utensils - chopsticks, spreader, spoon - over multiple class sessions, by building on skills and techniques learned in each session. The instructor will also cover topics related to reading grain in wood, orientation of the utensil within a log/branch, finishing techniques, and acquiring/maintaining tools. All levels of carving experience are welcome to experience this traditional art form and reconnect with your eating utensils.
