Twenty percent of each ticket sold to this special screening will be donated to
the local Eta Epsilon Sigma chapter of the historic Sigma Gamma Rho sorority
to support their work in the community.
ABOUT THE COLOR PURPLE
A musical adaptation of Alice Walker's famed novel about the life-long struggles of an African-American woman living in the south during the early 1900s, The Color Purple is a tale of love and resilience and of one woman's journey to independence. Celie faces many hardships in her life, but ultimately finds extraordinary strength and hope in the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood.
ABOUT SIGMA GAMMA RHO
Founded more than 100 years ago, Sigma Gamma Rho is one of the oldest and most historic African American sororities in the United States.
Fantasia Barrino, the star of The Color Purple is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho. Other prominent members include US Congresswoman Robin Kelly, Emmy Award-winner Audrey Jones, Hattie McDaniel (the first African American woman to win an Oscar), singer Martha Reeves, Grammy-nominated performer MC Lyte, three-time Olympic medalist Carmelita Jeter, and Kimberly Baird, Fayette Commonwealth Attorney.
The Lexington alumnae/graduate chapter, Eta Epsilon Sigma and its undergraduate chapters on the campuses of UK, EKU, Morehead State University, and Transylvania University are committed to uplifting and leading positive change that impact central Kentucky through sisterhood, scholarship, leadership, and service.
ABOUT DR. SHAMBRA MULDER
Dr. Shambra Mulder, a life member of Sigma Gamma Rho and Lexington NAACP Unit 3097, is currently serving as one of six national Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellows in Washington, D.C. She is a licensed psychologist and the founder of Professional Life Coach, Inc., of Lexington. She is the co-author, along with Sigma Gamma Rho member JoJuana Leavell-Greene, of Talking about Mental Health with Your Child: Coloring Book. They are currently working on a second book in this mental health series.
