In late 19th century France, famed gourmand Dodin Bouffant (Benoît Magimel) lives with his personal chef and lover Eugénie (Juliette Binoche). Eugénie prepares extravagant feasts and Dodin eats them. As their gastronomic and romantic attachments to one another grow, Dodin proposes marriage to Eugénie, but she refuses.
