An elderly widow lives in a lonely, grey world until she adopts a big, lovable dog who brings love and color back into her life.
"Tart" uses traditional ideas about widowhood to explore loneliness and isolation in older women. The story follows IDA, a widow in her 70s, who spends her days selling hand-knitted crafts outside her church and her evenings alone with the evening news for company.
