On the outskirts of Rome, one of the most competitive soccer tournaments takes place. The Las Leonas Trophy brings six teams of immigrant women, mostly from Latin America, head-to-head to compete for glory and the championship title. Still adjusting to life in Italy, these women work as housekeepers and caregivers but maintain an intense devotion to their beloved sport of soccer. Intercut with stories of their immigration, depictions of daily life, footage from matches, and snippets from a Italy-based Latin American radio show, this documentary offers an inspiring portrait of the enduring power of sport in maintaining cultural ties. This screening will be followed by a community conversation led by the Cambio Center, exploring topics such as women in Latin American society, immigration and diaspora, and sports.
