Description

Fresh from prison, conniving British archaeologist Arthur (Josh O’Connor) returns to rural Italy and reluctantly reconnects with a ragtag group of tombaroli, tomb raiders, for whom he divinates the locations of treasures from the Estruscan era. While the tombaroli hope to discover priceless antiquities in ancient gravesites, Arthur is haunted by visions of his lost love. Desperate to find her, Arthur challenges the foundation of reality to unearth the door to the afterlife. Accentuated by stellar supporting work from Isabella Rosselini and textural cinematography from Hélène Louvart, La Chimera continues director Alice Rohrwacher’s oeuvre of magical neorealism.
