As Admiral Kirk (Shatner) and Captain Spock (Nimoy) are training cadets at Starfleet Academy, a Federation science vessel is preparing to test the terraforming Genesis Device on a seemingly desolate planet. In the process, one of Kirk's former officers is captured by Khan (Montalban), who has sworn revenge on Kirk. To avert disaster, Kirk must take command of the Enterprise once more and face down his old nemesis.
